Carol Louder: A Lifetime of Adventure
From North Africa to the Yucatan Peninsula to downtown Salt Lake City, Carol Louder lives for a good challenge. She is a successful entrepreneur with an interest in world affairs, a commitment to protecting the environment, and a personal love of fly-fishing.
Carol's first career began in the port city of Tunis, capital of Tunisia, where she spent two years in the Peace Corps, teaching English. She returned to Utah to teach English as a Second Language to adult refugees and immigrants, and served as coordinator for the Granite School District's Indochinese Refugee Assistance Program.
She hooked up with the entrepreneur's life after a 1990 bonefishing trip to the Yucatan, which sparked the creation of the Macabi Skirt. A Colorado native, Carol has been fly-fishing since an October trip to Yellowstone Park in 1977. She has since fished in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Canada, Mexico, Florida, and the Bahamas. Still, her favorite trips take her to the rivers of Yellowstone Park with family and friends.
Carol belongs to the Outdoor Industry Association, the Outdoor Industry Women's Council, and International Women Fly Fishers. She supports the Henry's Fork Foundation, the Nature Conservancy of Utah and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. She is also a founding member of SOHO, an organization of entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. Locally, Carol is part of the Utah Women's Alliance for Building Community, and has also volunteered as a mentor with People Helping People, helping women on welfare reshape their lives. |
