The thing I like about the skirt is the fabric - it dries so quickly. The deep pockets are a real plus. We wore our long underwear under the skirts for the cold mornings and nights on the trek. During the day when it was hot, we would take our long underwear off and it ws cool and delightful to walk in for the long days journey up the mountain trail. I live in Santa Fe and I plan to hike this summer in my Macabi skirt. I'll be cool and my legs won't get sunburned - better than shorts for my fair skin.
